we’re buying a car for the 1st time and want to know do we need to have insurance in place before we buy the car? can we go to the dealers pick a car & say we’ll pick it up in a few days when we’re arranged insurance? if you need to arrange in advance, how do you arrange when you don’t know what car you’re buying? thanks!

Most insurance places need the make, model and year of car to make up a quote for you. You need the car first to be able to have Insurance. once you have decided, purchased etc, you then can phone in the details of the car, give them your age and your details, they draw up an amount to pay monthly and then your on your merry way in a new insured car :)

I believe you have 24 hours to get auto insurance once you leave the lot. The dealership will cover it for that long.

if you go during the weekdays, they can call your insurance and set it up the day you buy … otherwise there is a couple days that you have kind of a temporary insurance and you need to get the information to your agent ASAP …

if you don’t have the car, you really can’t insure it beforehand, insurance follows the car, not the driver, typically …

if ur buying first time I would suggest having someone at home near a computer that you ring and they can put in the details into a website like comparethemarket.com or confused.com and you can go through a few different cars you like and find the one with cheapest insurance. you don’t want to get home and find your going to have to pay 3000 pounds insurance!

it’s always good to have had prier insurance, but when purchasing a new vehicle , before you can take it home you’ll just obtain the vin # of the Vehicle you are getting and then get a hold of your insurance agent then you should be all set.
any other questions if you are buying from a dealer ship they’ll answer them for you. hope that helps.

The best thing to do when you buy a vehicle is have the information of the vehicle before you buy it (the VIN will be suffice), and call your company for a quote. Alot of times people are surprised by the price of the insurance when they add on a vehicle. If it’s too much, you can shop around for a better deal. I suggest you do this a week prior to purchase, so you can be prepared.

If you stick with your company, you can call in or fax the change request to them, and your insurance company can send the dealer a binder showing you did purchase full coverage on your vehicle. If your insurance company is closed that day, they give you a 10-30 day window of coverage, so you can add the vehicle on the next business day. Call your company to find out their procedures in this type of risk (each companies have different set of rules).

    Enjoy the car!

Well, there are lots of companies online that you could get a free car insurance quote rate. You just fill-up the form and then compare it among the others. There are certain factors in getting your cheap car insurance. Depends on the car, state, age, gender, driving record, etc.

Don’t go with sports cars and new model cars. They have expensive auto insurance.

Here’s some auto insurance listings in CA that you might want to check out:

Good luck on your search… Drive safe.
