I’m going to be buying a car out of state (the car’s in CT, I live in VT). So if I buy the car from a dealer I get temporary dealer plates, correct? And then when I get back to VT I go to the DMV and register it and get plates? But if I buy if from a private party what do I do about license plates and registration? Do I go to the DMV and get plates and registration stickers before I go get the car? And then what do I do about insurance? I have to add the car to my insurance before I go get it right?
I hope that made sense.

Here’s what I did when I purchased my vehicle out of state from a private party. I lived in CA and bought my car in NC. I went to the DMV and got a temporary registration (good for 1 week). I went and bought the vehicle and drove it back to CA and went and registered it back in CA to make it legal there.
As for insurance you can get it insured pending the registration before you purchase the vehicle.
