I want to cash the check and use it for something else besides fixing the damages to my truck caused by a deer covered under my comprehensive insurance–legal or not?
will I get into trouble?

Yes, I’ve done that many times.

Depending on who the check is written to, yes you can definetly use it.

Yes, it is entirely up to you if you fix car or not.

Depends on if there’s a lien on the vehicle. If it’s written to you and the bank for instance, sometimes they have to sign it as well. You may also need to obtain permission from the bank. Otherwise if it’s paid in full, the check is yours.

Yes, you can do so. However, if you ever decide to sell your truck or trade it in, the value will be diminished because of the damage. Also, if there is damage to a headlight or a blinker, you can be ticketed for it not working.
