A rock hit my window while I was driving and i have a $500 deductible to fix it. I wanted to see was that really high or normal? I have full coverage. I just want to see how this insurance compares to others. $500 deductible just seemed a bit high.
Thanks!

For glass that seems high. The deductible amount is your choice when you set up your insurance though. So you can make a change and lower it but the lower deductible will not apply to something that has already happened – only to future items. Also keep in mind that the lower the deductible the higher price you pay in premiums.

The deductible is the same whether it’s a broken window or if you total your car. You chose your deductible when you opened your policy with the insurance company. $500 is standard. You can also have $250 or more, like $1000. The lower your deductible, the higher your premiums.

It’s normal if you have chosen that as your deductible. You can lower it, but that will raise your premiums. It’s all a trade off.

Comprehensive coverage can vary between $0 and $500.
Mine is $500. Many people have it lower, but all things equal, they also pay more in premiums for the lower deductible.

That would normaly be covered under the Comprehensive part of your policy. Comprehensive sometimes does have a deductible, You would have to read your policy to see what, if any, your comprehensive deductible is. If the broken glass is a windshield or a backlight, Over $500.00 is in line, a side window shouldn’t be that much.
My personal opinion is that a deductible for comprehensive isn’t worth the small savings in premium cost. A Collision deductible of that amount is a better value. Just my opinion

$500 is what majority of policy holders have as their deductible.
When you purchased your policy you have the choice of what you want your deductible to be.
Deductibles range from $250, $500. $750, and $1K.
Usually, the higher your deductible the lower your premium will be.

Some insurance companies have what is called glass coverage, separate from comprehensive and the is no out of pocket cost to you for replacing the window or repairing a small crack. Also some have $250.00 deductible on comprehensive and $500.00 deductable on collision. Shop around to different agencies and ask questions. If it is a small chip, look up a glass repair shop in the phone book and ask if they do chip repair. If they don’t, ask if they know of a place that does. There may also be a listing in the phone book for chip repair. there is in mine.

In some states, glass coverage is not subject to a deductible. Are you sure that’s not the case?
