I’m moving out soon- I’ll have to pay for everything and we don’t get along at all. Is there any way I can call the car insurance company he pays for and somehow cancel MY name under his name w/o his say-so? And then I’d just get car insurance of my own under my name..
My Dad is the registered owner of the car

Who is the legal owner of the car? Who is the registered owner of the car? Without knowing that, any answer is just a guess.

You do not transfer, you get your own and he cancels his.

Insurance goes with a vehicle, not with a person. You are merely an approved additional operator on your father’s insurance. Once you get your own insurance and your own address, he can remove your name from his policy.
If you want to use the same company he uses for your own policy, they will probably automatically take your name off his when you have your own. I hope you have an idea of what having your own policy is going to cost you.

If the car is in your name you can put insurance on it in your name,But your dad will have to be the one to take you off his insurance.

no! But it’s a good thing to be double covered. as long as you dont have to pay for the insurance out of your pocket. Don’t sweat it just let him talk at you knowing that your already covered on your own.
