WOW. In MOST states, on most policies, IF you got rid of the old car (traded it in), you have 30 days to notify the insurance company of the new car. If you did NOT get rid of the old car, you have ZERO days - it was uninsured. Also, if you didn't have Comprehensive coverage on the old car, you won't have it on the new one - so it won't be covered. Caveat - not ALL policies have that wording. SOME policies (Progressive comes immediately to mind) have NO time period - but you could have done it over the phone with them, as they have phone centers 24/7. Call your agent, report the claim, and see what happens. Hit a deer AND caught fire? WOW.
