Call your agent. You will need some overlap in coverage anyway…

you can place it on hold. some ins companies will put the lowest possible so u only have to pay like 70 bucks just to keep it. or cancel it and re-instate it when u get back.

If you don’t keep your us insurance then your liscense will be suspended and when you come back you could get arrested..the best thing to do is to check with the finance company that finances your car for there requirements(if you still pay on it) chances are that it would be best to keep your american policy. also check with your current insurer because they may not cover you if you are out of the country

if you still owe money on the car call your lean holder and ask if it would be ok to get insurance in mexico on your car and stop the us insurance, otherwise they will get insurance on your car if they don’t think you have any and will charge you a lot more.

Yes, and your insurance company may require you to pay a temporary higher premium so I would check with them, especially since all of these companies are not the same.
Have a blessed day and a safe trip.
