So I’m getting ready to buy my first car. It’s located in the next town over. But if I just go over and pay cash and get it, there wouldn’t be any insurance on it. It’s illegal to drive without insurance.
Don’t I need to drive without insurance first? If so, how would I explain to them that I don’t exactly have a car yet?

Call an insurance agent in your area and ask him. You can get a policy set up ahead of time and when you find the car you want, you can call him and make it effective.

OK, if you are for sure going the buy a car you have picked out, call the dealer ship get the m ake model and VIN if you can, then call around for insurance quotes on the car . take the best offer, your insurance company will instruct you on what to do as well as the dealership. or you may delay it all by buying the car and having to wait till you get insurance or have it towed to your home. its up to you but i would prefer to call insurance companys first hand then you will have it ahead, if you dont know what car your buying but have one in mind, get a qoute as well. but i say have the kind of car your wanting for sure and looking in the market for it, that way you can hand over $ to an insurance company ahead as a down payment to drive your car home….

You need insurance first then yo need to register the car to get license plates before you can drive it. Insurance and registry take about a week to do.

Of course you can’t put insurance on a vehicle you don’t have yet, but you can and should tell your agent that you are looking to buy a vehicle, and give him your personal information. Then when you find the one you are going to buy, take the particulars to the agent and get your insurance card in place before you drive it away.
But please don’t drive without insurance in place, even from where you bought it to the agent.

You don’t need insurance to buy a car but you do need it to drive a car. A car is a piece of property and can be purchased just like anything else, but to drive it on the roads, you’ll need insurance or have a friend with insurance drive it home for you. Insurance can cover you no matter what car you drive…check with an agent or insure.com

Usually if your buying from a dealership, they will assist you in setting up insurance. Just give them the name of the insurance agency you want to insure your vehicle and they will call the agency and get the ball rolling for you. Then you will have to drive over to the insurance office and sign the papers. If you are buying from a private owner, go and record the year, make, model and V.I.N. number of the car (sometimes a photo helps too) and take it to the Insurance company and get your policy; then go get the car.

You make arrangements to buy the car first (and you can actually pay for the car), but you must buy insurance and it must be effective prior to driving the car off the lot.
If you’re buying a new car or a used car from a dealership, the dealership will help to arrange all the details with the insurance.
If you’re buying a used car from another individual, you take all the details from the car (VIN number, mileage, make, model, and other important safety information) and give it to the representative handling the insurance buy a policy (hopefully after checking your options) and then drive your car home. However, all options end with having insurance PRIOR to driving off in your new car.

Most states require that you have insurance on a car before you drive it off the lot.So find the car you want to buy then go get insurance on it then go back and pick up the car.You should have 30 days before you have to get tags.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO PAY CASH THEN THE ANSWER IS NO, BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP COULD CARE LESS WHAT HAPPENS.
IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT THEN YOU HAVE JUST SCREWED YOURSELF, NOT ONLY DID YOU WRECK YOU VEHICLE BUT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY AND ALL DAMAGES TO THE OTHER PERSONS VEHICLE AND YOU WILL BE SUED AND A JUDGMENT WILL BE PLACED ON YOU FOR THE REST OF YOU LIFE OR YOUR WAGES WILL BE GARNISHED FROM YOUR PAYROLL CHECK.
