I’m offering my classic corvette for sale, and concerned about buyers who will test drive it. Will the individuals’ auto insurance cover me if they drive my car and have a fender bender? What do I need to ask for as proof of insurance? The car is extremely valuable. Thanks.

if they want assurance the car drives well then you should drive it, your insurance is accountable as long as it is in your name.

Well the age old problem only allow a test drive after you take them out and show the controls and the way to drive it and ride along. No there insurance will not cover the car if they total it your insurance needs to be in effect. Also I would not allow a solo test drive until money changes hands. And you can get it off of your car policy and have the license plates you paid for in your hands. Each state is different about license plate laws but getting a ticket from some one you sold the car to for running a red light?

Contact you insurance agent and tell him what you want to do and then ask what insurance you need. I am sure he will sell you a “rider” on your policy to cover this circumstance. Good Luck!

With a car like that you should ALWAYS ride with them. Do not let anyone take it beyond your site without being in it or you may never get it back.
