    u pay whatever your deductible is, insurance pays the rest. you can take your car in before you pay, but you won’t get it back until the fixit place gets their money…

    It’s the amount out of your pocket before the insurance kicks in. If you have $400 in damages, and a $500 deductible, the damages are under your deductible, and not covered. If you have $600 in damages, the insurance company will write you a check for $100.

    It depends on the situation, as Mbr mentioned above, a small claim will generally be handled by you and the insurance company will reimburse you minus the deductible amount. If it is a large claim ($5,000 is damage for example) the company will either have you pay your deductible directly to the shop and they will pay the difference, or they will pay the full amount and bill you for the deductible. The company gets to choose which way they will go.
