how does the cost of insurance on a pickup truck compare to a similar SUV? i have heard that in general, pickup trucks are cheap on insurance (thats an oxymoron isnt it – cheap insurance?!?) mainly because they are hard to flip. this could of course be a myth though. also though i know that having 4×4 or awd tends to increase insurance costs. anyways, i am going to be looking to purchase my first car soon and i am a truck guy at heart and am hoping to get a used Ford F150. i have always loved trucks. it would be useful too since my family and i are always doing projects around the house and it would help with getting material and supplies. anyways, does anyone know if insurance is actually any cheaper on pickups?

I would try one of the multi insurance companies for a free quote to see what it would cost. Remember if your looking at full coverage on a newer vehicle SUV’s value is higher and so is your insurance. Truck price avg. 25000 to 27000. SUV Avg. 35000 to 40000

The price for liablility insurance should be the same for either a pickup or an SUV; the price for physical damage (comp/collision) will vary by age (of vehicle), original cost and claims experience. There’s no hard and fast answer to that question.

Pickups are around the same in price as cars. But it depends on how big the truck is. An F150 is the smaller of the pickup’s so the premiums would be simular to a car. The bigger trucks have higher premiums just like the Luxury car premiums cost more than a regular car.

As far as I know it is. But if you get a pickup with the Lariat, LS, 4×4, or the extra trim packages is does make the prices go up. If you get just the regular straight F-150 & nothing else, it’s pretty cheap. The best insurance company I’ve found is Progressive. The one I had before was 2 times more expensive. For one vehicle over 20 years old I was paying $500 for 6-months, just liability. Now with Progressive, for 2 vehicles, I pay $316 for 6-months. And both my vehicles are big, with the extra trim packages, one LS.
