I have a 1995 Chevy Caprice Classic with 73,000 miles on it that runs well and is in great shape. It is a big V8 and likes gas but I own it and pay minimal insurance (MA Car Insurance sucks!.) I was thinking of getting rid of the car for a new Focus, Cobalt or Elantra. Would you keep the current car or spring for a new one?

If you have an LT-1 keep it!!! drop 1500.00 into it and strap on a set of headers, intake and exhaust. it will increase your mpg and more horsepower

Figure out your total monthly outlay for a new econo-box first. Once you factor in car payments, insurance (sorry you’re in MA, I moved to MO to get away from those rates!) fuel, etc., you’ll probably find out that the Caprice is the cheaper way to go by far.
If it’s in good shape, take care of it and run it until the wheels fall off. It will still be cheaper than car payments on something new even if it guzzles gas like I go through beer!
If you must go new, avoid the Cobalt. Bad ratings from Consumer Reports. The Focus and Elantra are much better. Don’t get a used Focus, though. The early ones had issues but the newer ones are OK.
