State:

As many people are aware couples and married persons are likely to be more responsible in many areas regarding finance, spending and there everyday behaviour. As businesses have started to take note of the cautious approach to life often taken by married people savings are being offered, in particular for car insurance.

In the eyes of insurers a married couple that are sharing a car are less likely to cause or be part of an accident. As mentioned this is because married people are seen as being more cautious in their actions. According to insurers this is reflected on the roads where married drivers adopt a more responsible approach to driving opposed to people who are not married. This makes married drivers less likely to have an accident on the roads and therefore less likely to claim on their insurance, hence why they are being offered cheaper premiums. It is calculated that an additional saving of around £50 can be made by updating a person’s status to married when renewing or purchasing a car insurance policy. This is a relatively simple action to make a substantial saving but it is thought a considerable number of drivers are missing out on this as they have failed to update their marital status, either because they have not taken the time to or are not aware that doing so could save them money on their premium costs. It is however hoped that with the economic recession hitting consumers hard they do not start to get married to make a saving on car insurance!

Cheap car insurance can be obtained by single people also, so do not fear. The amount you pay often depends on the type of car insurance policy taken out and whether time is taken to compare car insurance providers.

A number of companies involved in the motor industry have been quick to offer motorists advice on how to keep themselves safe on the roads by ensuring their cars are in the right condition, which could also help save some money.

People planning on heading off for long distance drives or hoping to get away on trips during the spring weather are to offered free tyre checks by Protyre. The tyre specialists aim to make the roads safer by ensuring as many cars as possible have their tyres properly inflated, that they are adequately aligned and are balanced correctly.

Retail director at Protyre, Simon Hiorns said,” It’s easy to forget to check your tyres with all the distractions of a getaway, but they are critical to the safety of your vehicle.”

The news comes on the back of road safety charity Brake urging all motorists to take extra special care on the roads as the number of accidents and fatalities on the highways is growing each year.

Even unnecessary minor bumps are adding to peoples financial concerns as car insurance  companies are forced to raise their prices to afford the number of incidents happening on the roads.

Motorists have been told that they can save money by adopting greener driving practices and Kwik-Fit have claimed that people can slash as much as three per cent off their fuel consumption by making sure the tyres on their vehicle are properly inflated.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) have also offered drivers advice in saving money by claiming that people looking to purchase a new motor should do so now and take advantage of some real bargains that are on offer.

There has been a significant downturn in the car industry that has seen new vehicle sales fall by 30.5 per cent in March 2009 compared to the same month in 2008. Despite this fact, the Retail Motor Industry Federation, claim there are still many good deals to be had.

Sue Robinson, director of the RMIF believes that the market for new car sales is set to improve further, especially if the ‘scrappage’ scheme is employed in the near future.

She said,”Consumers will look to new cars again, given the right impetus, and the RMIF is continuing to lobby for the scrappage scheme which could help revive car sales and remove high-polluting cars from the road.”
