Whenever I rent a car the clerks’ invariably tell me that if I’m in an accident the rental company will charge me for everyday the car is out of service. They further inform me that my personal auto insurance won’t cover the rental company’s “out of service” charges. They tell me that full payment for the rental is expected everyday until the car is fixed.

Is that true? If so, what’s the best way to handle it? Should I just knuckle down and buy their ridiculously high insurance? Thanks

my car got totaled last year. My insurance found that my car was worth about $16,000. The person at fault was an Los Angeles County driver. My insurance company went to court with LA County to get the value of my car back. LA County and my insurance settled for about $14,000. My insurance said that was about 80% of what they paid (using round numbers, not actually the amounts LOL). My deductible was $1,000, and my insurance paid mea portion of my deductible because they only got a portion of what my car was worth. My insurance got 80% of what they paid so i got $800 (80%) of my deductible. Now, my insurance also sold my car for parts which was for about $13,000, So they got about $30,000 from the settlement and the selling to a junk yard. shouldn’t i get my full deductible because the got even more that the car was worth? and are they supposed to automatically keep the car or are they supposed to ask if i want to keep my car to rebuild it, or sell it for parts myself?

BTW I have my insurance with Farmers.

Thanks in advanced for all of your answers!!

Its nearly time for me to take driving lessons as i am turning 17 and i would now like to get more information about car insurance.
Having looked at the quotes from certain websites, car insurances for young driver like myself are stupidly overpriced, and this was just for car with cheapest insurances (1.0 liter engines).
The cheapest i found was over £2500 annual, having looked at this I was completely shocked.

So here i am in need for help from the experienced ones.
Is car insurance an option that you can avoid if you wish or is it a compulsory for a car owner?
Does the type of insurance vary on final cost?? (i chose comprehensive insurance which covered damage to car but there were other options that covered theft etc..)

It would really help if you could share your knowledge.
I would like to thank all of you in advance for your help.
