State:

We are looking at possibly moving our family to Gibson City,Illinois.
We visited some friends there back in July and we really loved it.

We plan to rent until my husband can find a good job. He’s 42 and tired of the job he’s had for the last 15 years here in Birmingham. He makes about $20.00 an hour here and they said he can have the job back if he returns within a year. ( if Illinois doesn’t work out)
So nothing is permanant. We’re trying it out. Might have to buy medical insurance privately if it’s not good through employment.

QUESTION:
How hostile are the local schooling officials towards homeschoolers? We’ve homeschooled here in Alabama for 15 years without any problems.
If a school official gave us a hard time in Illinois, we’d high-tail it OUT of Illinois. Although their laws are rated green by HSLDA, I hear rumors that they pester as much as they can before forced to back off.

Should we use an rv for a few months in Illinois to avoid being considered a resident? Instead of renting? Maybe they wouldn’t bother us if they think we’re just vacationing there?

Thanks,
Clare
Yes, we’ve been HSLDA members for 9 years now.

I need to replace my front bumper. The total amount it’ll cost me will be $575.00 and my deductible is $500.00. So if I tell my insurance they have to pay the remaining $75.00, will my policy be raised? I’m paying for the deductible every month anyway… I don’t see how it can or should be raised.

Last year my mom had a car accident, which she was at fault, and AAA raised the rates for all three cars on the same policy. My car was not involved in the accident in any way but they raised my rates by more than $200! My mom called the insurance company and they told her that all the cars on her policy had to be increased. Is it possible to switch companies so my rates wont be as much? And what about my mom? is she able to get a cheaper rate too if she switched? She was thinking about going to state farm. i was thinking about progressive.
