I just bought a new car…and though I know my rates were going to jump up, they doubled. I’m in the market for a new company. I currently use safeco.

you can’t really go by the size of a company to get the best rates or the best company for that matter. your rates depend on a lot of things, not just the company. the best thing you can do is call an independent agent in your area and get them to check their companies for you. they write for a lot of companies and can find the best company, best rate for you. its a good thing to have a local agent too, so if you ever need help or have to make a claim, you have someone working for you who knows you and is local.

Best for me, or best for you, or best for the guy down the street? There are so many rating factors in an auto policy, that there is no “one size fits all” cheapest.
Go back to your Safeco agent, and ask him what other companies he has – and ask him to quote you out for a better quote. And if you don’t like what he has to say, call around to a few other LOCAL, independent agents for quotes.
There’s no short cut – you HAVE to shop around. The best quote for me might be the worst for you, with my insurer – State Farm.

1. If the coverage doesn’t fit your need, it does not matter how big or inexpensive is the company.
2. If the agent, the product or the company is not reliable, the price does not matter.
3. You will get what you pay for and nothing is for free. Two key factors you need to understand when choosing the right package, agent and carrier for you.
Why double? You need to understand the contributing factors before you decide one way or another.

A good place to start is to fill out a quote form at http://www.myinsurancequotes.net. You will be contacted by a local agent who will ask you some questions and help you determine which plan and company are the best fit for you.
